The Labyrinth

We welcome you to the Labyrinth at the Church of St Andrew in Rye, a sacred space, consecrated in the name of Jesus Christ.

The Christian Labyrinth at St Andrew’s is a copy of one found inside the 12th century Chartres Cathedral in France. https://www.luc.edu/medieval/labyrinths/chartres.shtml

The labyrinth is not a maze, it is a continuous with path winding to the centre.  It symbolises our journey towards God, the creator of the Universe, revealed to us through the person of His Son Jesus Christ.

Your Journey within the Labyrinth can be a walking meditation, a contemplative experience, a time of prayer and meditation.  Walking it can help to quiet and focus the mind and soul.  It can help clear away stress and anxiety.

We invite you to walk our labyrinth as a gift of God’s peace and love and hope.  Enter your journey with a purpose such as a prayer, a question, a problem, a dream, a worry, or perhaps a bible verse.  You may have come for healing, for guidance, for strength, for help, for forgiveness.  Walk slowly, spending time in the centre.

You might wish to pray the Lord’s Prayer when you reach the centre

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done;
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen

When you are ready follow the same pathway out.

Have faith that you will be blessed and that you will know the presence and hope of Jesus in this sacred place.
